Maternity Jeans Buying Guide

Here at Me2 Maternity we know from our own pregnancies and from the ladies that visit our shop that finding the right pair of maternity jeans can be a challenge. We have put together a comprehensive buying guide, packed with helpful hints and tips, to help you find maternity jeans that look stylish, feel great and will see you through every stage of your pregnancy and beyond.

Jeans are a core item in any maternity wardrobe and are favoured by mums to be for their style,comfort and versatility. We realise that it can seem like an extravagance to spend on jeans that you may only wear for a relatively short period of time, but we say you should see them as an investment and build your new maternity collection around them. Just think, you have temporarilly grown out of all of your clothes, what better place to start then an amazingly cut, well designed pair of jeans for an instant confidence boost. It's also good to note, although we hate to be the ones to break it to you, that most ladies need their maternity jeans for a period of time after the birth of their baby. We like the expression 'nine months up, nine months down!'

Maternity jeans come in many different syles and fits and all vary in how they are adapted for pregnancy. You will come across the terms over bump and under bump and this all really just comes down to preference. Some ladies prefer the over bump styles that cover your bump partially or fully and some ladies don't like the look or the feel of having anything covering their bumps, this is entirely a personal choice.

We are frequently asked the question, when should I buy my maternity jeans? Again this is a very personal thing and varies greatly amongst ladies. We simply say, when your regular jeans start feeling tight. When buying your maternity jeans, we advise that you buy the size you were before you became pregnant. Choose a style similar to your favourite regular jeans, but adapted in their fit to maternity and use this as a starting point. Choose a style with room to grow. A well designed pair of maternity jeans should be able to be worn from the time you grow out of your regular jeans, to having your baby and beyond. Denim with a lycra content works best with most styles. This will ensure they are comfortable and give you that extra bit of stretch when you need it.

Dark colours are more flattering. A dark wash denim will give a smarter look and have a slimming effect. Bootcut jeans give a long, lean look, which is flattering to most ladies. 'Skinny' jeans should be reserved for those of you with a lean shape as they draw attention to your hips and thighs.
